Setting up AdIQ

In this short guide we’ll walk you through the entire process of setting up the AdIQ ad tag for the first time.

What is AdIQ?

AdIQ is a rule-based dynamic ad insertion tool for Prebid that uses real-time and historical data to trigger bidders and DSPs for maximum bids, resulting in the best possible yield for publishers.

Carbon users can set up multiple AdIQ units from within the Yield+ section of their dashboard optimising for different ad unit types, sizes, media formats and partners.

Let’s get started!

How to use and navigate AdIQ?

In order to set up AdIQ you must have access to Yield+. If you don’t currently have access to Carbon’s Yield+ tools please contact your account manager, email us directly at hello@carbonrmp.com, or use the “contact support form” in the top right of your dashboard by clicking on the question mark.

Navigate to Yield+ First you’ll need to navigate to your Yield+ environment which can be found at the top of your Carbon dashboard, after the ‘Analytics’ and ‘Audience’ tabs. Once you’ve navigated to your Yield+ environment you can begin to create your first AdIQ Unit by clicking ‘Create AdIQ Unit’ in the green box in the top right of the screen.

Note: If you’ve already created any AdIQ units you can manage/view performance of your AdIQ units from this environment, as well as creating new units by alternatively clicking the ‘Create new AdIQ unit’ box that appears.

Before you begin, you should know that AdIQ requires the use of Google Ad Manager

  • including details of ad unit sizes and the ad unit path - as well as Prebid.js
  • including details of your media types, partners, and configuration.

Step 1: Set rules Next you’ll be presented with a selection of preset rules.

Select the rule you wish to use for your AdIQ Unit and click ‘continue’. Alternatively, if you wish to create your own rule please speak to your account manager.

Step 2: See ad placement sizes Next we need to set up your ad unit placement. To do this you must first give the unit a name and then select the sizes you wish to use from the dropdown list. You can select multiple sizes if desired, and once finished selecting click ‘continue’.

Step 3: Choose your media types Next we need to choose which media types you are using in your Prebid setup, including the media type and related unit size. Again you can add multiple media types if you need to simply by clicking on the ‘Add another media type’ button and again selecting the media type and size.

Step 4: Choose Prebid Partners Similarly to the previous step you must then select which Prebid Partners you are using and also your key parameters. You can have as many partners and parameters as you wish using the respective ‘add another parameter’ and ‘add another partner’ options.

For each partner/bidder you add, you must set the specific parameters required by each supported bidder. For instance; “Partner name” might be AppNexus with “Parameters” including “reserve” with a value of “3” to set a floor price of $3 for that unit.

For more guidance on this step, get in touch with your account manager or use the “contact support form” in the top right of your dashboard by clicking on the question mark.

Step 5: Prebid Configuration You must choose whether you are running Disable Initial Load. If you have disabled initial loads, ad calls will only register the ad slot with no ad content loaded until a second action is taken. This allows you to precisely control when ad requests are made.

You can also choose to add a Bid Request Timeout to this ad unit, indicated in milliseconds (ms). By default the BRT is set at 1000ms.

Step 6: Provide the Ad Unit Path Your Ad Unit is almost ready to go! To complete the process, you need to create the ad through Google Ad Manager. Login to your GAM account and use the provided Div ID to set up your inventory. For additional information on how to set up your ad, visit Google's Help Center for assistance.

Once done, return to your AdIQ set up in your Carbon dashboard and provide us with the ad unit path, or come back to finish when you have the ad unit path available.

Step 7: Adding The Script Once you’ve input the ad unit path it’s then time to add the script provided to any web page where you would like the ad to serve.

It’s important to note that you must use both pieces of markdown to set up your inventory.

Setup complete! Congratulations, your AdIQ Unit is set up and ready to start making money.
